How We Assess You: A Student-Focused Approach

Our assessment process is designed to ensure that you not only meet the standards required for the CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, but also feel supported and confident throughout your journey. Here’s how we do it:

1.
Initial Assessment: Recognizing What You Already Know

The first step is to evaluate your previous experience and Children’s Services Qualification through a comprehensive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessment. This assessment helps us identify the units you’ve already mastered through your Certificate III in Children’s Services (CHC30712 or earlier) and your recent work in the industry.

This means you won’t have to repeat content you’re already familiar with, allowing you to focus on new learning that will enhance your skills and knowledge. For example, if you’ve recently updated your First Aid certification, you can receive a Credit Transfer (link to credit transfer and rpl policies/procedure) for the HLTAID012 unit, saving you time and effort.

2.
Tailored Learning Plan: Focused and Efficient

Based on the results of your initial RPL assessment, we develop a customized learning and assessment plan just for you in our student management system aXcelerate. This plan outlines the specific units you need to complete to gain your certification. It’s designed to be efficient, covering only what’s necessary to ensure you meet all the required competencies.

Your learning plan will include:

  • Learner Guides and E-Learning Modules: These resources provide the instructions and activities you need to complete each unit.
  • Session Plans: Structured guides that help you manage your study time and prepare for assessments effectively.

3.
Learning in Clusters: Thematic and Relevant

To streamline your learning experience, the compulsory full units that you need to complete are grouped into thematic clusters. Each cluster is designed to build on your existing knowledge while providing targeted training in specific areas of the current best practice in early childhood education:

  • Cluster 1 – Working in Early Childhood: covers the skills, knowledge and understanding of legal and ethical obligations when working with children and how to adhere to service policies and procedures. You will learn how to identify ethical and legal concerns and how to respond to these appropriately. Lastly, you will learn to identify where work practices could be improved and how to implement these changes.
  • Cluster 2 – Supporting Children’s Development: covers how educators can support a child’s play and learning through curriculum and planning, based on the approved learning frameworks and your services policies and procedures. This cluster will assist you in understanding theoretical knowledge to base your choices when working with children, as well as informing your professional decisions and reflection.
  • Cluster 3 – Inclusion and Diversity: explores the how to positively support all children with their unique behavioural needs, promote inclusive practice through a variety of age groups of children and lastly, understand how to support each child in a way that promotes their sense of belonging and encourages them to be individuals.
  • Stand-Alone Unit – HLTAID012: In Provide First Aid in an Education and Care setting, you will learn the life-saving skills to provide the best first aid care to children and coworkers.

By learning in clusters, you can see how different aspects of early childhood education connect, making the content more relevant and easier to apply in your work. Depending on the outcome of your initial RPL assessments you may be required to do more of these clusters if you do not qualify for gap training in a specific area.

4.
Practical Assessments: Real-World Application

Our assessments are hands-on and practical, reflecting real-world scenarios you’ll encounter in your career. Whether it’s demonstrating CPR and First Aid skills or conducting workplace observations, these assessments ensure you’re not just knowledgeable but also ready to apply what you’ve learned in a practical setting.

You’ll be assessed on tasks like:

  • First Aid Demonstrations: Using CPR manikins and first aid kits.
  • Workplace Scenarios: Conducting risk assessments, being observed in the workplace and creating safe environments for children.

These practical assessments are designed to be directly applicable to your work, so you can immediately put your learning into practice.

5.
Continuous Support: You’re Never Alone

We know that returning to study, even in an accelerated format, can be challenging. That’s why our trainers are there to support you every step of the way. They’ll provide feedback on your work, help you overcome any hurdles, and ensure you’re progressing confidently through the course.

When you first choose to enrol in this course, your Trainer and/or our Student Support Co-Ordinator will meet with you to discuss your goals and what support you might need in depth. As you work through your course you will have easy access to your Trainer and Student Support Co-Ordinator to regularly review how you’re progressing and if your support needs to be reviewed.
